Basic Craps Strategy – Craps Tips and Advice

If you enjoy the game of craps you might want to think about learning a basic craps strategy so that you can be a consistent player.  Those players who are consistent and have a strategy that works will usually stand a better chance of winning.  While craps is largely a game of chance, there are some strategies that will help you reduce the house edge, which will increase your chances of winning during every game play.  A basic craps strategy is often overlooked because it is so simple, but don’t let simplicity fool you!

One of the best basic craps strategy options is to go for the Don’t Pass bet.  This is in direct contrast to what a lot of “experts” will tell you, but it is the way to go if you don’t care what the other players at the table think of you.  Why would you consider betting against the shooter when not many people do this>  Because you are decreasing the house edge from 1.41% to 1.364% which doesn’t sound like all that much, but when you’re talking about the house edge you can use all the help you can get!  In a game of chance any time you have the ability to reduce the house edge you should go for it, regardless of whether or not it is the most popular bet in the game.

Many people use the basic craps strategy of always betting on free odds.  Why is this basic craps strategy followed by so many?  Because you will not only be able to double your original bet should you win, but because most of the other bets on the table have larger odds against you, so your chances of winning diminish.  Your goal should always be to look at where the odds are most heavily in your favor and go with that.  Again, these may not be the flashiest or the most popular bets, but they are the ones that will help you win long term.

These basic craps strategy options are very controversial.  For every player that you talk to that does use them you’ll find ten that do not.  There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about craps and the strategies that are best used.  If you always keep in mind that reducing the house edge is the way to win you will find that these strategies are valid.  Both of these strategies are very simple, which is why they are overlooked by so many players.  Despite their being simple, they continue to be winning strategies for players both new and experienced.

Many people consider history a basic craps strategy, in that each roll outcome is dependent upon the previous roll.  This is simply not true and will lead you astray time and time again.  The dice and the table have no memory; each roll is simply random and is all about chance.  If you buy into these strategies you’ll find that winning becomes more difficult rather than more probable.
